Carlow

Just back from A Taste of Carlow which was held at the new plaza in front of the Town Hall just up the street from us here in Barrow Lodge. It was a great showcase for all the wonderful food and crafts made in County Carlow. We bought some lovely local cheese which we are going to toast on homemade brown bread and serve with onion marmalade/relish (which I made yesterday) for tea. We made a new friend too!

Graduation at IADT

We were in the RDS today at Rosie’s graduation. Rosie now has an honours degree in TV and Film Production from IADT. The ceremony was grand and it was great to see the the cheery disposition of all the graduates. This scene is replicated in many universities and colleges throughout the country at this time of the year.
Last month we had a young graduate from Germany and his parents staying here while he graduated from Carlow Institute of Education

Jacob’s Creek

I have just been in Superquinn and bought myself a cheeky little bottle of Jacob’s Creek Sparkling Rose. I have just put it in the fridge and plan on drinking it while watching the late film. Attached to it was the collar tag below

I am now very distressed. I wonder if the advice given on this collar tag reflects the opinion the manufacturers of Jacob’s Creek have of people who drink their fine wines? Can anyone out there please tell me: 1. Who is Chef Andrew Rudd? 2. Why would the same Andrew Rudd think drinkers of Jacob’s Creek do not use cups, saucers, glasses etc. when they are having a dinner party? and, why in Gods name does he think we would have a dinner party in our house if the house was not already sparkling clean? Has Chef Andrew Rudd not got any recipes he can put on these collar tags rather than giving us Jacob Creek drinkers useless advice?

The Greeks

This is sad! I know very little about Greece, don’t know any Greeks yet I am blogging about them. The problem is it’s seven o’clock in the evening, I’ve been here on my own in Barrow Lodge since eleven o’clock this morning and it’s all I’ve heard on the radio all day. So what are the Greeks playing at? Why are they having a Referendum? Why is there 17% unemployment in Greece? Why have they a Socialist government? Surely this and all their other problems did not evolve overnight. So my question is – Why do the Greeks not do as us Irish have done; shape up, bite the bullet, embrace austerity and put their country back in shape for the next generation?
